Riparian Planting
We are delighted to announce that the club has recieved $7500 in funding to help with riparian planting. Facilitated by Auckland Golf and funded by the WWF and the Council, the club is now working with Restoring Takaruga Hauraki to put together a plan for this year and beyond.
The club has developed an ecological management plan that will help to steer the project in the years to come, and we believe that with the help of volunteers from both the club and Restoring Takarunga Hauraki, we can enhance the natural habitats around our course and play our part in creating better habitats for bird life in the region.
We think that we have the funding to plant around 1000 native plants this year, plus some larger specimin trees to replace some out on the course that have been taken out. In order to achieve this goal we are looking to put together a group of volunteers who will help with the preparation and planting in the identified areas on the periphery of the course.
Initial dates for working bees are likely to be in mid August once the final arrangements are made. We will ask for expressions of interest for members to help support this project in the coming weeks.
