Nine Hole Ladies – Weekly Golf Chat

Hi,

Sorry it’s a bit long this week, we’ve got a lot to tell you. So grab a cup of tea and settle in!

A Moment of Reflection

First and most importantly, our heartfelt condolences go out to Helen Webber, whose daughter Melanie passed away yesterday after a courageous battle with cancer. Helen, we are so incredibly sorry for your loss. Please know we’re all holding you in our hearts during this time.

Pennants Captain’s Report

A challenging match on home turf this week against top-ranked Wainui, with all our players having to give shots. Our team — Penny Elliott, Helen Holtes, Jules Doddrell, Jo McEvoy, Prue Gard, and Kirsty McDonald — put up a solid fight but couldn't bump up our ranking.

  • Kirsty claimed our only win
  • Prue and Helen halved their matches
  • Everyone else battled hard and came close
  • Special shoutout to Jo McEvoy for playing her first-ever Pennants match and holding her own beautifully

Our final match is 28th April at Wainui vs Pupuke — wish us luck!

Huge thanks to our fabulous helpers on the day:
Gillian La Franchie, Bella Offner, Heather Grey, Gill Allison, Sheridan Alexander (and her divine cakes and muffins), and Vicki & the café team — you made the day a winner regardless of the scoreboard.

Thank You for the Survey Feedback

Big thanks to those who filled in the 9-Hole Ladies survey – we had responses from 10% of the group. So either the rest of you are delightfully content or blissfully indifferent – and hey, we’ll take that as a compliment (I think?).

Here’s what stood out:

You LOVE: the friendships, relaxed format, and not losing your whole day to golf.
You DON’T LOVE: battling for tee times on Tuesdays — 177 members, 68 spots. We hear you.

It is a bit hard for me to push anything to change to the committee with such few responses. Know I am trying and we hear you.

Golf Rule Reminder of the Week

Watch each other’s balls. Not only does it save time, but also your dignity.
And if there’s doubt? Play a provisional.

New Member Mornings – First Tuesday of Every Month

We had some lovely new leads this month say hi and ask questions over a coffee. If you’re new-ish (or still feel new), join Laurie and me (Penny) at the club café on the first Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. for coffee, a catch-up, and a quick run-through of the new member pack. It's perfectly timed between school drop-off and morning traffic — and early enough to sneak in a round guilt-free.

Please pop me a text (Penny - 021 969 982) if you’re planning to come – otherwise, I’ll be off playing golf and might miss you! The next one is May 6.

That’s it for now — see you all on the fairway!
