11th Hole Reopens Tomorrow!

We’re thrilled to announce that the 11th hole will officially reopen starting tomorrow! After a period of closure to ensure improvements and safety upgrades, the new protective netting is now fully installed and complete.

Thank you to all our members for your patience during the upgrade process.

The OB line on the 11^th hole has been painted and marked with white pegs. The OB line is approximately 10m from the new fence line so it will be unlikely that any ball hitting the netting will come back into play.

SUNDAY MIXED PAIRS GOLF

Hi everyone,

Entries are now open for the second of our mixed pairs events scheduled for Sunday 4th May  - full details are:

Format: 4BBB Stableford [18 holes]

Cost per person: $10 for members and $60 for non-members [ Visitors welcome ] - Waitemata Nine Hole members $25

The start sheet on the day will be a two tee set-up commencing at 11.30am

Enter as a pair or individually and we will endeavour to match you up. 

Prizegiving will follow the golf - the prize fund will be the total of the entry fees received

Please register for this event by 20th April, by email to either Pauline at bridgy@xtra.co.nz or Gary at g.mcalister@xtra.co.nz. Late entries will be accepted up to the day of play [ space permitting ] and the entry fee is payable on the day.

Strokeplay Club Champs will be held next month.

Women

All three division will play 54 holes over 3 days. May 10,17,18

Men

Senior - 72 holes played over 2 days. 36 holes on May 10, 36 holes on May 17.

All other divisions will play 36 holes on May 17 and May 18.

Registration options  will be posted in a dedicated Club champs email soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

The Birthday Cup has had a facelift as the old format, which was played over multiple weeks with multiple formats, is messy to manage and we've found players have had trouble committing to playing each week. 

This will now be a randomly drawn pairs event with the pairs 4BBB net score being added

How long have you been at WGC? 27 years.

Started here and haven’t left. What got you interested in golf? Both my knees were replaced and I wasn't allowed to play tennis anymore. I played tennis for 25 years before that.

What’s your favourite hole here and why? The 18th. I like the challenges both left and right, it’s long, there's a bunker, and the beer comes next.

What’s the best golfing tip you’ve been given? Keep your head still.

If you could play a round with anyone (a foursome) who would you pick (and why)? Ryan Fox, Tom Chandler (to take the beer), and maybe Owen Bradley

Where would you love to play one day, and why? Augusta, one of the most famous courses in the world.

Do you have a long-term personal golfing goal you’re working towards? Too old for that, there is no long term. My short term goal would be to get my handicap back to 20

What’s your favourite thing about WGC? The camaraderie.
