Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about the unusually high rainfall in April and how this impacted on course operations. This year we received 308mm of rain compared to 90mm recorded in April 2024. Most members will be aware that we installed the Hydrowick Drainage System on the 3rd, 12th and 17th greens during the third week of April. When this product is installed it has the effect of drawing water to the surface and this combined with heavy rains made these three greens particularly soft towards the end of the month. This was not unexpected and is part of the bedding-in process. The Greens Staff and Board are extremely happy with the first two greens that were drained late last year and believe it will not take long for these next three greens to firm up as well. In fact Dennis feels that the 6th and 11th greens are already two of our best greens - they are firmer and actually required very little water over the summer months. If all of our greens had been drained with the Hydrowick system the course most likely would not have been closed like it was last week.

Again, just to highlight the amount of rain we have received on the course - in the 5 day period  Monday 28th April to Friday 2nd May we recorded 115mm of rainfall.

On a slightly unsavoury note I feel the need to draw members attention to our rules and procedures. We have had a few incidents recently where members have engaged with greens staff and pro's shop staff in an inappropriate manner.  Please be patient and courteous to our greenkeeping staff while they're out on the course. Do not hit up on staff under any circumstances — your cooperation helps keep everyone safe and allows the team to maintain the course to the high standard we all enjoy. The Board feels we have an excellent team of people who do a wonderful job, at times, under difficult conditions. We ask that members please respect all staff. All of the team are happy to engage with members and visitors to the club but do not need to hear your opinion on course conditions, course closure decisions, tee sheet issues, competition rules, etc. If there are genuine complaints these should be addressed in the first instance to our General Manager - Jamie Palmer by email gm@waitematagolf.co.nz

Genevieve Recordon

Handicap: 34.2

How long you’ve been at WGC? Since 2005. That’s also when I started.

What got you interested in golf?: Hilary and I were looking for somewhere to play and give it a go... she was a local friend. We were both interested in golf; we interested each other!

Favourite Hole: It’s probably going to be the third. I like the third. We have three long shots, and it’s the one before the very short one (4th). That’s a bit of a relief. I also like the fourth; it’s difficult, but I like it.

Best Golfing Tip: Keep your head down.

Best Golfing Memory: Probably all the get-togethers that we have. The Christmas-do, the Prizegiving's... it’s just a good sense of community.

If you could play a round with anyone (a foursome) who would you pick (and why)? Helen Webber, Colleen, and Hilary.

Where would you love to play one day, and why? Wairakei (near Taupo).

Golfing Goal: I’d like to get under 50 (in a 9-Hole round). Sometimes I’m around 50; sometimes I’m around 60. I’d like to get under 50. That’s the goal.

What’s your favourite thing about WGC? I like the fact that it’s flat.

Takapuna Grammar Open – A Huge Success!
We had a fantastic turnout on Monday for the Takapuna Grammar Open, with over 60 players taking part in what was a great day of golf. The event showcased some incredible young talent, and we’re thrilled to have supported this initiative in partnership with Takapuna Grammar to help grow the game.

A huge congratulations to our winner with a superb score of 67 – a brilliant effort!
And a special shoutout to the player who scored a hole-in-one – what an amazing moment!

Thanks to everyone involved in organising the day and to all players for making it such a success.

Hi Fellow members!

First off I would like to thank Club Management for giving me this opportunity to plug my new start-up Private Hire Driving Service business which is now up and running providing Airport & CBD Transfers, Day Trips and transportation for that special occasion.

Having held senior roles in the Transport Sector previously I know what ‘Great Service’ looks like.  My commitment to those who travel with me is you will not receive better service.  You will travel in an immaculately presented 2025 vehicle with all the trimmings and a driver with a willing ear to listen to any golfing woes, which we’ve all carried around in our golf bag from time to time J.

Furthermore no Credit Card surcharges or Surge Pricing to be concerned over!

I do require advance notice please to confirm your journey so as not to disappoint.

Regards

Gary Bennett
