Colin Griffiths
Handicap: 35.5
How long you’ve been at WGC: Not certain – probably about 30years. I stopped for a while as I got married and had a young family. I then came back and am now a 9-hole member.
What got you interested in golf? In my late teens I used to be a keen soccer player and then I injured my knee. I had a friend who was a golfer at North Shore. He encouraged me to play golf. I had a few lessons and then got into it!
What’s your favourite hole here and why? The 9th. It’s straightforward, especially with the wind behind you.
What’s the best golfing tip you’ve been given? Slow down.
If you could play a round with anyone (a foursome) who would you pick (and why)? The three guys I was just having a coffee with. Ray Williams, Paul Flemming and my cousin Peter Plimmer.
Where would you love to play one day, and why? I don’t really travel for golf much; but some of the Rotorua courses were quite interesting.
Do you have a long-term personal golfing goal you’re working towards? No. My main interest is social and keeping fit.
What’s your favourite thing about WGC? It’s a relaxed atmosphere and friendly. It's nice to be at the same course as my grandson and granddaughter who both play here. Also, it’s a flat course, I don’t climb hills very well anymore.
