Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey.
We had 51 responses, which is an excellent result and gives us a really solid base to make decisions that reflect what you actually want, not just what we think you want.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll share the key themes and what we’ll do with them.
Why do you play 9 holes (this matters more than anything)
There was a very clear message in your responses.
You’re not just here to play golf.
You’re here for:
- The social connection
- The welcoming feel of the group
- The flexibility that 9 holes gives you
That combination is what makes this group what it is.
And it’s something we need to protect.
Because once that balance tips too far one way, whether that’s too serious, too rushed, or too unstructured, it changes the whole experience. We DO need to keep in mind the needs of the club too and play swiftly as not to cause a doctor's surgery lateness to players following us.
NOTE - Thursday morning bookings are NOT a 9-hole morning, so it’s fair game on who plays and when. We, as a 9-hole membership, have no sway over those tee times.
DOUBLE NOTE - Every morning I have gone to the club on Tuesday, there are spots empty…so it’s hard to push for more when we have gaps. However, Tuesday does have the highest course usability of all the days at 83%. And yes, the club and the board look at this weekly.
What this means for us
Every decision we make needs to pass a simple test:
Does this improve the experience without losing what makes 9-hole golf so enjoyable?
That includes:
- How we manage tee times
- How we run competitions
- How we create opportunities for you to connect with different players. This is really important for me - the ‘I onlt want to play with my friends’ attitude is great…for any other day besides Tuesday. Tuesday is our club morning and playing with whoever is expected and encouraged to ensure the new members coming through the club feel welcome. They will also learn the ways of the club from the more established members too.
