Waitemata Golf Club Goes Native — Exciting New Partnership Announced
We are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership between Waitemata Golf Club and Restoring Takarunga Hauraki (RTH), a passionate community-led ecological restoration group working across the Devonport peninsula.
Over the next three years, together we will transform key areas of our course boundaries and surrounds into thriving native habitat — planting approximately 860 eco-sourced native trees and plants across three sites on and around our course.
But this is about much more than trees. RTH will be running community planting days throughout the programme, and we are particularly excited about the school visits and learning workshops that will bring local children onto the course to plant, learn, and connect with nature. Imagine the next generation of golfers — and conservationists — getting their hands dirty right here at Waitemata.
The partnership also connects us to Auckland Council's Urban Ngahere (Forest) Strategy, with support from the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board, meaning our efforts contribute to the wider goal of increasing native canopy cover across Auckland.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our club to play a meaningful role in the environmental and community life of the Devonport peninsula. We look forward to sharing updates, photos, and planting day invitations with you as the programme gets underway.
Watch this space — and if you'd like to get involved, keep an eye out for our first community planting day coming up.
