What an incredible few days for New Zealand golf. Ryan Fox birdied the final hole at Royal Birkdale to win the Open Championship. It just shows that you have to take each shot as it comes and forget about the last one. He came from 52nd to win! Wow - there is hope for us all yet. I did have a laugh at 62 for 18 holes. Some days, 62 for 9 holes is good enough for me! haha

We haven’t had much luck with the shotgun start on the first Tuesday of the month, have we!? Rain! How annoying. We will try again next month - third time lucky.

I DO want to remind you about the rules day NEXT Tuesday - please all come along or forever hold your peace about rules disputes! This is an opportunity for all to get on the same page over an extended lunch. If any of you need me to ask your bosses for time off to off, let me know, and I’ll sign your leave passes ;)

NEW ZEALAND WOMEN'S OPEN COMING TO WAINUI

More brilliant news. The New Zealand Women's Open is officially returning after a 10-year hiatus and will be held at Wainui Golf Club from 18 to 21 March 2027. Dame Lydia Ko will headline the field, returning to the tournament she won back in 2013, 2015 and 2016. The event will be co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and the WPGA Tour of Australasia, with a strong international field and global broadcast coverage. It marks the first of a four-year agreement, so this is set to become a regular fixture on our calendar. Wonderful to see an event of this calibre landing right on our doorstep.

RULES PRESENTATION - SAVE THE DATE

Put it in your diary now. Tuesday 28 July at 11.30am we are having a rules presentation, and this one is open to all 9-hole ladies and the rest of the golf club too. Please come along even if you are not playing golf that day. $10 cash, please, to cover the presenter's costs.

Esther and Chris will be presenting, and it is an excellent coverage of all the rules of golf you need to know. It puts us all on the same playing field so we genuinely know the rules together. Last time I went I thought it would be dry, but it was actually really fun. They make it interesting with all sorts of visuals.

If you are working that day, ask for an extended lunch break and come along. Buy lunch and head upstairs for it. Well worth your time. Would love to see a big turnout for this one.

See you next Tuesday.
