Greenkeeper Report

Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate this week, and we weren’t able to complete the planned coring of the greens. Monday morning’s rain left the ground too soft to remove the cores without risking damage to the putting surfaces.

Instead, the team carried out a mini solid-tine core, followed by a double vertical cut (slicing) and a good sanding. The greens will still benefit from this work, though not quite as much as they would have from the full coring and sanding programme.

We had also planned to use the cores to fill the holes on the 2nd, 13th and 17th fairways, but now we can’t.

Work to level the 16th fairway was also postponed, as the ground was too soft for the trucks to access the area. This work is now scheduled to begin on the 3rd November.

In other news, our young greenkeeper, Nick Webster, is sadly leaving us this week to take some time off before embarking on his next adventure.

Nick completed his greenkeeping qualification under my guidance, and I’ll be sorry to see him go. He’s a great guy, a very hard worker, and always good for a laugh. He’s certainly kept us entertained along the way!

I’d like to wish Nick all the very best for whatever comes next. He’ll be missed by the team.

-Denis
