Michael Khuwattanasenee
Handicap: 14.4
Time at WGC: About one and a half years
How long have you played golf? About one and a half years. I play a few times a week, go to the driving range and have had a couple of lessons with Brad.
What got you interested in golf? I run my own business, so I was looking for a hobby to make sure I had a good work-life balance and looked after my health a bit more. I work in hospitality, and I only have free time in the morning – so golf was the perfect fit for me.
Background of golf: When I was really young (12-13) in Thailand my grandfather was pushing me into golf. I trained for a year or two, but then I got interested in other sport. At the time, none of my friends played golf (they did other sports) – it was just me and my grandfather – so at the time it not that much fun.
What’s your favourite hole here and why? Number four. It’s quite a good distance for me and I got close to a hole-in-one a few times.
What’s the best golfing tip you’ve been given? Everything is in your head, so try to control your emotions and how you feel that day, everything else will come.
What’s your favourite thing about WGC? Its local; also, when I started to come here, I could see that the community was great. Every time I come here, I encounter great people. The group I met today – I just met them – they invited me to play every week. Everyone is so nice. No one pushes others to hurry; everyone is respectful and complimentary. I’ve been trying different courses, and I find Waitemata the best – that's why I encouraged my friend to join.
