Golf Investment Plan : Member Submissions

You should all have seen the Golf NZ communication around making a submission about the Auckland Council Golf Investment Plan.

Whilst the club is generally supportive of council looking at how they can better support clubs that are based on their land, and much of the work we are actively doing around growing the game, shortened formats, welcoming new members and ecological management plans, certainly adds to the argument that we are providing a valuable community facility that benefits the members and the wider community. 

The problem with the current draft golf investment plan, is that it uses inaccurate data, and paints golf as being elitist and in decline. Whilst we don't believe it the intention of the authors to advocate for the reduction in number of golfing holes on our course or on others around Auckland. If this plan (in it's current form), were to become a template for Council when making decisions on our lease, this could be used for such purposes, given that the document is not clear and open to interpretation. 

We therefore ask that all members submit feedback on the golf investment plan that both highlights the positive impact our club has on physical and mental wellbeing, the environment, physical activity, participation rates, and the role we play in the local Devonport community. 

It is essential that you stress that the retention of 18 holes on our current footprint, and whilst there may be opportunities to add additional activities on the periphery, golf should always remain the core to what we do.
