Congratulations to our 18H Ladies - Weekend Section 1 Pennant Winners 2022

As the seasons change, we reach the conclusion of Pennant rounds, and other North Harbour competitions for the 18 Hole Women players.

Waitemata has been well represented, and has had success at every level.

National Teams Day, at Whangaparaoa. There were 13 teams competing, from NH Clubs. The Waitemata team of Christine Fleury, Julie Liu, Younghwa Lee and Lynda Fairweather were first equal on points with Pupuke, but countback gave the win to Pupuke.

18 Hole Pennants. Teams competed in four divisions. It was a difficult season, with weather and covid disruptions forcing last minute changes to several fixtures. However the Waitemata teams fronted up, and achieved impressive results:

Midweek Section 1 Semi-finalists Loss to Pupuke at Pupuke

Premier Grade Finalists Loss to North Shore 1 at Redwood Park

Weekend Section 1 Winners Beat Gulf Harbour at Redwood Park

This Final was a very close match, 55-53 and it was teamwork that carried the day.

Thanks to all Team managers and players who gave up their time to represent our Club. Your success is well deserved.

18 Hole Strokeplay Championship The final rounds in 3 Divisions were concluded last Sunday, and as the Silver Division were playing 36 holes in one day, they ended up competing against the weather as well. After a very long day, it took a playoff hole to determine the winner:

Division 1 Strokeplay Champion Annette Muir Runner up Leanna Hutchison

Bronze 1 Champion Claire Kim Runner up Vivien Lee

Bronze 2/3 Champion Anna Madsen Runner up Alison Richardson

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all the players who supported this significant fixture by taking part. The Women’s club has a long history, another chapter written.

Felicity Sotheran Women’s Club Captain

Golf Investment Plan Update

With the stakeholder submissions now closed on the Auckland Council Draft Investment Plan, we are seeking advice on the next steps. Submissions have been made by the Club, Golf NZ, North Golf, Sport New Zealand amongst others, all expressing concerns about the inaccuracies within the document and the consultation process.

Feedback will now be passed on to the Auckland Council PACE (Parks, Arts, Community and Events) Committee for review before any decisions are made. We will keep you updated as an when we have further information to share.

Weather

With the weather having taken a significant turn over the last week or so (there has been over 75mm of rain this week), the course is now beginning to get wet again after another long and dry summer.

Please help the greens staff by repairing all divots and pitch marks and staying out of roped off areas.
