Craigs IP Mixed Pairs - Sunday June 22nd

Hi all,

As previously advised the format for this Sunday will be Canadian Foursomes Stableford. In this format both partners tee off and then one ball is selected for play and the partners hit alternate shots until the ball is holed out. The person whose ball is chosen cannot hit the second shot - in other words nobody can hit consecutive shots. There is no requirement for either player to hit a minimum number of tee shots. Men will play from the Royalist White tees and Women from the Leander Blue tees.

Please note: the 2nd and 7th holes will be played as a par 4 with strokes allocated as per the mens stroke rating

Cards will be preprinted and can be collected from the Pro's shop upon payment of the $20 (per pair) entry fee. At the completion of your round please scan the cards as normal before coming upstairs for the prizegiving. All prize winners must be in the clubhouse to receive their prize.

Just a reminder that if you are entered but now find you cannot play please email Gary on g.mcalister@xtra.co.nz  to withdraw. Similarly if you have yet to enter but would like to play please email Pauline or Gary - there are a couple of spaces still available.

Pauline & Gary

From the Greenkeepers

Members will have noticed various ropes and hoops set up around the course. These are intentionally placed to protect vulnerable areas of turf that would quickly deteriorate into mud if foot traffic continues.

We ask all members to respect these boundaries and walk around the designated areasnot through them.

Unfortunately, our Greenkeeping team is finding that these ropes and hoops are being moved or tampered with by members. This is unacceptable. Interfering with course protection measures undermines the work of our staff and directly contributes to course damage.

Going forward, any member found moving or walking through these marked-off areas will be formally warned, and repeated behaviour may result in disciplinary action under club rules.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping to preserve the quality of our course for everyone.

On the same note, due to the soft ground conditions pitch marks on the greens are much worse in winter than in summer. Members (and visitors) should be extra vigilant about repairing these. You can use a pitch mark repairer, or simply a long tee to do this. Marks take longer to recover in winter so let’s ensure we all do our bit to keep the course neat and playable.

Guy Pedrick

Handicap: 35.7

How long you’ve been at WGC: 20-30 years

What got you interested in golf? I used to play Soccer / Badminton and then had an ankle injury and replacement. So I thought I’d give golf a go. That turned out to be a good choice.

Why WGC: I was at Pupuke Golf Club, but I had problems with my ankle and all the hills made it worse. So I moved to Waitemata as it’s a lot flatter.

What’s your favourite hole here and why? The 5th hole. All the par 5’s are a good challenge because I’m not a long hitter.

If you could play a round with anyone (a foursome) who would you pick (and why)? Jack Niklaus – I saw him play at St Andrews and he was very good. Nice guy too. Bob Charles – he's a lefty, and I’m a lefty. Lydia Ko – she used to have the Tee Time before me back when I was at Pupuke Golf Club. She was 14-15 years old at the time. She’d tee off with her mum and it was amazing to see her shots.

Where would you love to play one day, and why? Oakmont – the one that’s just been played in the US Open.

Do you have a long-term personal golfing goal you’re working towards? Wel it was to keep playing until I’m 80; but I’m 80 now, so I guess I’ve achieved that goal!

What’s your favourite thing about WGC? It’s friendly, and it’s flat!

Why Safer Plates?

North Shore Neighbourhood Support has teamed up with the Police and Community Patrol to help reduce vehicle-related crime by offering Safer Plates — anti-theft screws for number plates.

This simple project makes a big difference. Number plate theft is becoming a growing concern across New Zealand, and it’s more serious than it sounds. When plates are stolen, they can be used in crimes like:

  • Stealing petrol from service stations
  • Avoiding fines for traffic offences
  • Committing serious crimes like burglary, drug trafficking, or robbery — all while hiding behind someone else’s number plate

By replacing the standard screws on your car with special anti-theft ones, it makes it much harder for thieves to steal your plates.

It’s quick, easy, and it protects your vehicle and your identity.
Together, with support from our community, we can help make our neighbourhood safer — one plate at a time.
