What a day!

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to our Mid-Winter Christmas event. We were blessed with crisp, sunny skies and festive spirits all around. The mulled wine was a highlight—special thanks to our sponsor, Jam Shed, for keeping our cups (and hearts) warm. Congratulations to the winners of the Nance Cochran Trophy and Plate and all the other winners on the day too.

Many asked for the recipe - so here you go!

Mulled Wine in Crockpot

Smaller Crockpot

  • 2 Bottles Jam Shed Red Wine (Cab Sav or Shiraz)
  • 8 Tablespoons Brandy
  • 4 Mandarins, peeled
  • 20 Whole Cloves
  • 2 Apples
  • 4 Cinnamon Sticks (halved)
  • 4 Tablespoons Brown or Raw Sugar (taste after adding sugar and add more if needed)
  • 600 ml of Water

Large Crockpot

  • 4 Bottles of Wine
  • 10 Tablespoons Brandy
  • 32 Whole Cloves
  • 3 Apples
  • 8 Mandarins, peeled
  • 8 Cinnamon Sticks (halved)
  • 8 Tablespoons Brown or Raw Sugar (more to taste if necessary)
  • 900 ml Water

Method

  1. Put wine, brandy, and water into Crockpot.
  2. Split mandarins in half through the middle and stud with cloves.
  3. Core apples and slice with ways to get apple donut shapes.
  4. Add fruit, cinnamon, and sugar to wine mixture.
  5. Heat gently until ready to serve (3 hours or more). Put Crockpot on high while assembling the ingredients, then turn to low once all ingredients are in the pot.

Note:

  • For 36 people, use one smaller Crockpot and one large.
  • For 60 people, use three smaller and one large Crockpot. (And get a cleaner in the next day because that will be a BIG party!)

Big thank you to our sponsors

  • Paula Brake for the beautifully embroidered golf towels
  • Hancocks, Jam Shed and Lake Chalice for our selection of wines

To our food connoisseurs

  • Vicki Granger for the divine Christmas cake
  • Helen Webber for her melt-in-the-mouth meringues

To the WGC legends

And to our helpers

  • Judy Parsons
  • Maureen Proulx
  • Audrey Shamy
  • Jacquee Pedrick

A special thank you to Sheridan for pulling it all together. We simply wouldn't have had such a wonderful day without your magic touch.

Calling All Potential Pennants Players - Play & Info Afternoon – Thursday July 17th, from 3pm

Believe it or not, while we're rugging up for winter, it's already time to start planning for Pennants 2026. Last season, our 9-hole ladies smashed it and we want to build on that.

We'll play 9 holes of matchplay with the 18 hole ladies too, followed by an informal Q&A for anyone wanting to learn more.

Never played Pennants before? No problem. We'll pair you with someone experienced and make it fun and welcoming.

Don't think you're good enough? Let's not be an overthinking lady! Just jump in, give it a whirl and you'll see it's actually a great format of golf play. Matchplay is a great way to improve your game, expand your golf community, and play other courses in the region.

If you're even a little bit curious, this is your perfect chance to get involved.

See you soon,

Penny & Sheridan

P.S. I attended the committee meeting this week, more on that next week. And keep going on the Gobbler competition too. I see we have lots going on the sheets in the changing rooms! Great work, ladies.
