AUCKLAND COUNCIL GOLF INVESTMENT PLAN UPDATE
On Thursday we recieved an update from Golf NZ regarding the Golf Investment Plan. Please see below:
"There have been some significant updates regarding the draft Auckland Golf Investment Plan since the close of submissions at the end of May.
The PACE Committee was due to vote on the plan at their August meeting. However, the decision has been pushed until the next PACE Committee meeting on the 22nd of September due to all the submissions and lobbying done by the golf sector.
We have been working hard meeting and lobbying Councillors so they are aware of the issues relating to the plan and so any future vote will be favourable to golf. This caused a workshop to be called by the Chair of the PACE Committee last week. This was a closed meeting and we were not allowed to attend. Prior to the workshop, we sent the attached talking points to all Local Board Chairs and Councillors which proved to be very useful. Council Officers made the attached presentation at the workshop. You will see in the attached some minor proposed changes to the plan.
From what we understand, it appears that ‘option 2’ is the most likely option that will be voted through next month. This is good news in many ways. We have caused enough doubt in Councillor’s minds that this plan should not be adopted in it’s current form. However, any new consultation is only going to be regarding the changes to the plan. This is still concerning so while a small battle has been won, there is still a lot of work to be done. We will continue to work hard over the next month with media and legal strategies. On the assumption that the vote to adopt will be pushed in to early 2023, we need you, and your members help in future proofing our position"
